OUR SCHOOL

JMJ- English Medium School Integrated for the Blind was inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Kundukulam, the Late Archbishop of Thrissur on 23rd May 1989. It was the dream of our Archbishop to start a school for the Blind in his Archdiocese. Blind children between the age of 4 and 10 are admitted to this school. They stay in our JMJ Bhavan. They are taught to read and write in Braille and are admitted to JMJ. School, integrated for the Blind. At present about 1500 normal students and 14 visually challenged students are studying in our school from L.K.G to Std. X.

Principal's Message

The aim of JMJ Higher Secondary School, Athani, is to impart balanced and all-round education to promote an integral personality of each student. The School since its inauguration in 1989 has been doing so. We believe that children who come to us are the future of our society and nation. Generally, children are gifted with wonderful imagination, fresh and innovative ideas. While imparting relevant and up-to-date education, we also lay emphasis on various skills development and give great importance to extra-curricular activities such as sports, yoga, art, meditation, dance, music, public speaking, creative works, etc. The presumption is that by the time they leave the school they would have received a holistic formation to face the world and make them committed citizens of a strong nation. Information, formation, and transformation is the teaching philosophy of our school.

In my experience as a principal for 10 years and as a teacher for more than 22 years, I firmly believe that, along with the balanced education, human values should be inculcated to make the children blossom as integral human beings. Therefore, our school cherishes and promotes the dignity of each child as the child of God. Furthermore, the school seeks to foster in the students an education based on sacred scriptures of humanity and true values of our Indian culture.

Accordingly, the school has drawn up its curriculum to inculcate in the students, the values of love, brotherhood, justice, honesty, truth, simplicity, tolerance and compassion. The school is keen to impart to them a sense of responsibility and sensitivity to the needs of others especially the poor and the vulnerable in our society. Since its inception the school has tried to equip each student with an equanimous mindset and develop attitudes to face future difficulties with courage and optimism.
